Driving Hwy 1 – June 25

Today we took an entire day to drive from San Simeon beach up to our next campsite that was half way between Santa Cruz and Monterey. While backing in to San Simeon last night a local said don’t miss the moon rocks on the beach. We are not sure what moon rocks are but the beach near our site was covered in an impressive variety of rocks.

A popular Elephant seal hangout was our first stop as we enjoyed the views on Hwy 1 headed north to Monterey.

Our San Simeon no hookup site.
Very cool hill top area to spend a few days if you don’t require hookups.
Really cool to see pelicans like we have on the east coast.
Brooke’s favorites.
Best example of what I could find that resembles a moon even though I don’t think this is what the local was referring to.
Elephant Seals
A tricky drive with a camper but great views at the fog began to clear midday.
The constant reminder of landslides that take out portions of this road was a little unnerving.
We did not time our gas right so I had to fill up in Big Sur on Hwy 1 which was the most expensive of the trip. Now is probably a good time to fire up the Go Fund Me gas money page!!
Incredible beach but was not accessible from the road.
After lunch the clouds cleared and we stopped at a roadside access to spend a few hours at Carmel By the Sea Beach.
Charlie was a good sport as he was patiently waiting to find a good surf spot.
Some of the homes along the golf course at the Pebble Beach iconic 17 mile drive.
Along the 17 mile drive they had 17 different stops that had historical significance but we were short on time and our rig was too long.
Driving the last portion of the 17 mile scenic loop was frightening because every turn was an opportunity to hit a tree with the camper.
